Today was redemption!
Conditions could not have been more ideal to set a PR:
- THE THUNDERSTORM had cooled the air
- The course omitted College Point Blvd!
- And it wasn’t ridiculously HOT! (Like Chicago)
The Whippets gathered into the corrals together and the start of the race led us towards and around the unisphere. As we funneled through the first mile, I couldn’t help but feel really relaxed! Maybe it was the company of Mwangi by my side, as he helped pace me for the next 13 miles!!! And who am I to turn down a friendly challenge from Rob? I loved the chase!!

Without having to navigate through the potholes or inhale the poisonous exhaust of the factories along College Point Blvd., I super stoked to run this half! The first 6 to 7 miles took us around the muddy lake, followed by an out-and-back to City Field. The rest of the race was pretty much a repeat of the lake and a few twists and turns throughout the park. There was no serious elevation since my Garmin only detected a total of 40 feet of elevation!
The most difficult areas of the course were during miles 11 & 12. Thank goodness I had a fellow Whippet by my side to help me really DIG DEEP!!
And so, my PR streak this year continues at 1:27:44 (breaking 1:29:28 at the Brooklyn Half)
Consider this race report completed.
SPECIAL THANKS TO ALL THOSE WHO CAME TO CHEER!
&
CONGRATS TO THE FINISHERS!
ON TO THE NEXT ONE!

P.S. – Triathlon training only allowed me to run about 12-20 miles a week for the past 2 months. Viva track workouts!
Not bad considering you are training for multiple sports. Keeping going man, and keep the PR streak alive!
